Isopropanol (isopropyl alcohol) does not have a UN number that changes at a stated concentration. Under 49 CFR 172.101 the packing group is assigned by test criteria, not by percentage — see below for what decides it and how Alliance Chemical's own grades are classified.

Why there is no percentage cutoff

UN1219 is Class 3 PG II across the commercial range. What ends regulation is not a percentage but the FLASH POINT: an aqueous solution stays Class 3 until dilution raises its flash point above 60 C. Typical 70-100% grades are PG II.

  • Percentages are by mass. 49 CFR 172.101 thresholds are w/w, but product labels often state volume (v/v). Near a cutoff the two can fall on opposite sides, so confirm the basis before classifying a shipment.
